Looking for places other than a walk around the block to take your kids this Halloween? This year there are a few events happening right in the middle of Pacoima. The best part is that they are free, family oriented, and all walking distance! So grab your ghouls and ghosts, their candy sacks, and a flashlight (to be safe at night) and stop by these events in your neighborhood!
1. Heroes of Life
Heroes of Life, a youth organization that focuses on music, art, and culture, is having an all day event at their location in the Pacoima Community Center for all parents, grandparents, and children. Your family can check up on their health at the health fair from noon to 4 p.m., then gobble up a bunch of safe candy from the trunk-or-treat from 6-7:30 p.m. Decorated cars will line the parking lot and kids can go “trunk-or-treating” from car trunk to car trunk. There will also be contest on which car is decorated best. Enjoy the rest of the evening with the 1 Love Concert and support your local youth artists by purchasing their artifacts that will be sold at the event. Remember to wear your costume and enter the costume contest! Pacoima Community Center, 11243 Glenoaks Blvd., 12-9 p.m.
2. Parks and Recreation
Two Pacoima parks are facilitating Halloween festivities in their recreation area: David M. Gonzales Park (3-7 p.m.) and Ritchie Valens Park (5-8 p.m.). Both parks will have games, prizes, face painting, snacks, and a costume contest. It sure will be fun for the youngest ones, and bring the older ones as well because from either park (whichever is closest to your home) you can take a walk to the festivities at Pacoima City Hall. And if you trick-and-treat on your way there = more candy! David M. Gonzales Recreation Center, 10943 Herrick Ave., 3-7 p.m./ Ritchie Valens Recreation Center and Park, 10731 Laurel Canyon Blvd., 5-8 p.m.
3. Pacoima City Hall
Pacoima’s City Hall is going to be giving away more than just candy: free hot dogs, water, and popcorn will also be a treat. Kids can collect more candy at the “trunk-or-treat” and win more prizes if they enter the costume contest. Save some popcorn for the movie! The screening of Hotel Transylvania will be shown at 7 p.m. and will close the evening. So attend the events at Heroes of Life, then swing the park closest to you, and finally trick-or-treat on your way to Pacoima City Hall. That’s the best way to celebrate Halloween in community. And don’t forget to attend Día de los Muertos festival the following days at Pacoima City Hall. More details from El Boletín de Pacoima coming soon! Pacoima City Hall, 13520 Van Nuys Blvd., 6-9 p.m.
